  • In the first half term students have a range of different workshops to build their art skills in a variety of media and experimenting with a variety of techniques to help them when they start component 1
  • The workshops range from: Observational drawing using different types of paper and media, Monoprinting, Wire sculptures, Tape art
  • How to analyse the work of an artist
  • Creating a personal identity box inspired by the work of Joseph Cornell
  • Students start their non-examination assessment
  • Each student chooses their own theme for their personal project (e.g. Change)
  • They create a mind map of ideas and then an artist visual mind map to help them develop their idea
  • The students work through a 6-week cycle, which includes: Week 1 Observations, Week 2 Artists, Week 3 Composition Ideas, Week 4 Development of idea, Week 5 and 6 Large scale piece
  • Students learn how to progress through the assessment criteria set by the examination board including:  Develop and explore ideas,    Work from direct observation,   Research past and present Artists, Designers and Craftspeople,   Experimentation of materials and processes,   Progression and review of ideas
  • Final piece(s)  All work must be based on observational drawing and link to the work of other artists
  • Students are taught to experiment with a variety of media
  • These include pencil, pen, paint, collage, tape, sculpture and printing
  • They are also encouraged to use different types of paper and fabrics
  • Students specialise in their material strengths as they progress through the course
