“All the worlds a stage”
-William Shakespeare-
The Drama department vision at DWS seeks to provide a challenging and creative environment which enables all students the opportunity to grow in understanding of themselves and the world around them. We aim to develop critical and informed thinkers who have an in-depth knowledge of the world of Theatre through the exploration of a range of practitioner methodologies, performance styles and playwrights and how this can be applied to their own performance work. Drama’s vision encompasses the term ‘I CREATE’ which reflects core transferable life-long skills. This allows for all students to acquire and develop their Initiative, Communication, Resilience, Empathy, Adaptability, Teamwork and Enjoyment within all lessons. Drama gives students a chance not only to learn about situations but also to experience them first hand. Crises can be faced and lived through in a safe environment where it does not matter if “mistakes” are made. Mistakes in fact become a learning opportunity for comment and testing which help the students to understand the human condition more deeply and build strategies for dealing with life.
