“Having money is not happiness, but not having money destroys lives”
– Martin Lewis –
At Darrick Wood School, we believe that finance education is essential for preparing our students to be successful and responsible members of society. We want our students to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.
Our vision for finance education is grounded in the principles of practicality, relevance and inclusivity. We aim to empower our students with the practical skills to manage money effectively, to plan and budget for their future and to understand the financial systems and institutions that underpin our society.
We believe that finance education should be relevant to the real world, so we will provide opportunities for our students to apply their learning in real-life situations. This will help to deepen their understanding of financial concepts and develop their confidence in making financial decisions. We will work to create an environment that fosters curiosity, collaboration and learning, where all students feel valued and supported on their financial journey.
Given the local employment landscape, we will work to maximise opportunities for our students to progress their journey into a career in the industry where they will be able to use the grounding they receive in the subject at school to help them climb the first few steps of a finance career.
We aim to extend student’s understanding of financial markets and their place within a modern, ever-changing world; looking at broader issues of sustainability, globalisation and the influence of the media, as well as the external political and economic factors that affect everyday life.
