“Music can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable”
– Leonard Bernstein –
Music at Darrick Wood School aims to unlock pupil creativity, find hidden talents, and build confidence. As well as developing instrumental skill and theoretical knowledge, it is also very important for our students to have an understanding and appreciation for musical traditions beyond their own interests.
Through the development of our key skills, Listening, Performance and Composition students study a broad range of contexts understanding and applying their knowledge of the Elements of Music to our curriculum and music that surrounds them.
Our use of ‘I CREATE’ which reflects core transferable life-long skills within lessons allows all students to acquire and develop their Initiative, Communication, Resilience, Empathy, Adaptability, Teamwork and Enjoyment within the music curriculum.
The Darrick Wood Music experience allows all students to develop practical music making and performance through both our curriculum and wider co-curricular provision.
