At Darrick Wood School, Physical Education is not just about developing physical fitness and skills, but about cultivating a lifelong love of physical activity and promoting the importance of holistic well-being. We believe that PE should be a platform for students to explore their physical and mental boundaries, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and nurture their self-confidence and resilience.

We aim to create a positive, inclusive and safe environment where all students can participate and excel, regardless of their background or ability. We encourage students to take ownership of their learning and to set personal goals that challenge them to strive for their personal best.

Our approach to teaching PE is centred around the principles of enjoyment, engagement and achievement. We are proud of our facilities and the fact that we can offer a broad range of sports, outdoor activities, dance and fitness classes. We aim to foster a sense of joy and passion for physical activity that will stay with our students long after they leave our school.

We also recognize the crucial role that PE plays in promoting mental health and well-being. By encouraging students to take care of their physical health, we also hope to equip them with the skills and resilience to manage stress and anxiety in their lives beyond the school gates.

It is well known that physical activity and sport is crucial for maintaining a healthy body and mind. We strongly believe that if students engage in curricular Physical Education and participate in extra-curricular Sport, then they are more likely to maintain a positive mindset towards their studies and go on to achieve academic success across the school.

Ultimately, our vision for PE is to inspire our students to become active, healthy and engaged citizens who will go on to make a positive contribution to their communities and society as a whole
