Through studying Spanish at Darrick Wood School, our students learn to appreciate that languages form an important part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live. We aim to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to consider themselves as global citizens who live in a multicultural, mutually respectful world. In Key Stage 3 and 4 Spanish, we aim to teach our students to appreciate different Hispanic cultures, along with their ability to understand that to communicate in Spanish is a lifelong, valuable skill for education, employment and leisure, both in this country and throughout the world. Through studying Spanish at Darrick Wood School, students will develop an understanding of grammar and how the Spanish language is constructed, whilst developing and refining their ability to listen to authentic spoken Spanish, to read and understand different text types and to develop skills to infer meaning. Students also learn to express themselves coherently in both spoken and written form.
