Science - ks3

“Science is more than a body of knowledge; it’s a way of thinking, a way of sceptically interrogating the universe”

Subject Vision and Intent

At Darrick Wood our Key Stage 3 Science curriculum is designed not only to build on from the knowledge pupils have studied at primary school but also to develop their investigative skills.  This is achieved through linking practical work directly to the theory.

At the start of Year 7 all pupils will have an introductory series of lessons where they are introduced to a working science laboratory, key pieces of equipment they will be using and how to conduct investigations safely.  After this series of initial lessons our Key Stage 3 curriculum is split into rotations where pupils will study one Biology topic, one Chemistry topic and one Physics topic in each rotation.  After each rotation pupils will sit a formal assessment so we can see the progress pupils have made and make any interventions that are necessary.

At the end of Key Stage 3 pupils are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to tackle their Key Stage 4 science curriculum.
